No longer just spectators, but an integral part of what happens on stage. Thursday 24 September at 9.00 pm at the Teatro Antico in Taormina “Interference” arrives, a project by DT Junior Ballet included in the program of the Taormina Arte 2026 International Festival, directed by Simona Celi, with choreography by Alessandra Scalambrino and live music by and with Puccio Castrogiovanni.
On stage the dancers Desy Falletta, Rachele Masciocchi, Giuseppe Scroppo and Alessandro Bonacina, protagonists of a project created specifically so that those watching become an integral part of the show.
The heart of Interference is precisely the relationship with the public. Every barrier to the scene is broken down: spectators sit in direct contact with the performers, becoming up-close witnesses of an intimate and immersive experience. The traditional distance between the dancer and the observer thus leaves room for a relationship in which presence, body and closeness become elements of the same scenic action.
“Interference” is not a choreography to be observed, but a vibration to be welcomed. An invitation to discover how the body, deprived of speech, knows how to bear witness nakedly. A close encounter in which the silence becomes dense and the proximity takes your breath away, based on an assumption: without the presence of the spectator, that body has nothing to say.
Dialogue with the dancers is the original sound score by Puccio Castrogiovanni, performed live, which accompanies the tension of the performance in real time, amplifying the beat and vulnerability of the shared space.
With this project Taormina Arte returns to propose original shows in which the spectator is called to be the protagonist, going beyond the simple enjoyment of the show. The Ancient Theater thus becomes part of the experience and place of a direct relationship between artist and audience.
A choice that is part of the line carried out by the Taormina Arte Sicilia Foundation and which the Extraordinary Commissioner, Bernardo Campo, explains as follows: “With Interference we continue the path we have chosen for Taormina Arte: building a multidisciplinary program that enhances the Ancient Theater through cultural projects designed to create an authentic relationship with the public. In this case it is the dance that changes perspective: the distance between spectator and performer is eliminated and the public enters the experience of the show itself. This is the direction we want to continue to follow, making of the Ancient Theater is not simply the place that hosts the events, but a living space of participation and culture, which this Institution has chosen to place at the center of its programming”.
