The Secretary of State American Marco Rubio has defined “very constructive and positive” the meeting with the Chinese counterpart Wang Yiheld on the sidelines of the Asean ministerial by Kuala Lumpur, despite the parties have issues on which they remain in disagreement. Rubio, reported South China Morning Post, said he believed the chances of a summit between the American president “high” Donald Trump and his Chinese counterpart XI Jinping. “I found this meeting very constructive and positive” and there is “a strong mutual desire” to organize a meeting between the respective leaders, added the head of Washington diplomacy.

A positive dialogue between the leaders of the diplomacy of the two countries would increase the chances of a summit between leader who would allieme the tensions after the commercial truce, despite the numerous friction. In 2020, China sanctioned Rubio twice, who was Senator of Florida, for the criticisms of Beijing on the management of Hong Kong and Xinjiang, as well as for his request for punitive laws towards the Chinese government. Beijing, however, said that the penalties would have no impacts on official exchanges. Thursday, Rubio said that he would, among other points, raised the question of the support of Beijing to Russia. “The Chinese have clearly supported Russian efforts and I think that in general they were willing to help them as much as possible without getting caught,” said the secretary of state after the meeting with the Russian counterpart Serghei Lavrov.

Chinese economic and diplomatic support in Moscow after the invasion of the Ukraine in February 2022 remains one of the many critical points in the relationships between the two world economies. In their last call in January, Rubio expressed concern about China’s posture towards Taiwan and in the southern Chinese Sea, while Wang warned the United States to manage the issues related to the rebel island with caution. Trump said he wanted to meet Xi Jinping after the telephone interview of early June, in which the communist leader invited the Tycoon to visit China. The two countries are part of the Apec (the Association for Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation), whose annual leader summit will be hosted by South Korea between October and the beginning of November 2025. US and China are starting to keep promises in the commercial interviews of Geneva and London: Beijing, in particular, agreed to resume the export of rare lands, while the US offered to loosen some restrictions on methane, software for the design of chips and components for reaction engines.
