The restoration of the viable connection with the artisan fraction of Spadafora-San Martino is now close through the reopening of the overflow number 3 on the A20 Messina-Palermo motorway, entirely carried out from Novo after the SCARE operations.
Five years have passed since the intervention that inevitably led to the elimination of the deck no longer in safety conditions. It was November 2020 when the operations were performed with the support of a large crane. Now, finally, the final step. «Last night the bridge was subjected to a severe load test – explains the designer, the engineer Luigi Bosco – Six tanks weighing over forty tons each were used. The deformations obtained were within the limits of those provided for by the theoretical calculation and there was a good elastic return of the bridge. The company that managed the measurements is completing the report and the opening was scheduled for Friday 8 August, at 12 noon. The test driver is the engineer Pierluca Lombardo, while the “inhabita” company of Canicattì dealt with the load tests “. Before the operations carried out, who gave the desired outcome, the engineer Bosco had met the mayor of Spadafora, Lillo Pistone, who followed the complex works from the beginning. “I have greatly appreciated the attention of the mayor towards the preparatory phase to the reopening of the bridge, much awaited, especially from the local population, for his vital importance in the territory”, underlines the designer.
