Europe Verde/AVS of the Piana di Gioia Tauro, through its manager Pino Romeo, intervenes firmly on the re -emergence of the project of the groining of Gioia Tauro, calling it “an anachronistic structure, without industrial logic and energetically disconnected by the real needs of the country”. According to the official data of the Ministry of the Environment, the national gas consumption in the first six months of 2024 stopped at 31 billion cubic meters, the lowest figure since 2013. “It is not the result of geopolitics – precise Romeo – but of the impoverishment of Italian families, forced to reduce energy consumption to face the increase in the cost of living”. In a recent study, the Think Tank Iefa has also certified how Italy recorded between 2021 and 2024 the greater contraction of gas demand between the European Union countries: a clear -19%. “A structural drop – explains Romeo – which makes the insistence incomprehensible in wanting to build new regasifiers”.
