The decree of the elections, published today on the Burc and signed by the vice -president Filippo Pietropaolo, confirms without a shadow of a doubt what the oppositions have been supporting for days: after the resignation of Roberto Occhiuto, the functions of president of the junta are due to the vice -president for the ordinary administration, as required by the Constitution, the regional statute and the jurisprudence. The group leaders in the Calabria regional council, Mimmo Bevacqua (Pd), Davide Tavernise (M5S) and Antonio Lo Schiavo (mixed) declare him in a joint note. «Other than the Fantozzian press conference, as Pietropaolo called it: he would have done better to keep silent. With his own signature at the bottom of the decree he denied himself, officially certifying that the resigning president cannot remain in office. It is proof that we were right from the beginning and that any attempt to bend democratic rules to electoral interests has been unmasked ». For the oppositions this is also the confirmation that, from this moment, Occhiuto must immediately leave the position of commissioner to health. “It is not admissible – they say – that it can re -apply and lead the election campaign by maintaining a role that guarantees him power and visibility, altering the equal conditions between the candidates. Calabria deserves credible institutions and a loyal electoral competition and with clear and certain rules. The choice to indirect the elections for 5 and 6 October was then the result of the perplexities expressed by the bodies in charge and certainly not by the will of those who would have liked to carry them out on 28 and 29 September “.
