«I came here because in September I will turn 93: I have come an immense curiosity to guess what eternity is, which I feel so close to me. And here on these stones I could “: he told us so, that evening, sitting with the coppola in his head, in the small light of a lamp, as if he were in his studio. Instead he was at the Greek theater in Syracuse, excruciating and speechless. On that boundless stage, which reaches the sky, up to the hill and up to the Greeks and who also filled everything alone, with his only enormous presence. Andrea Camilleri that evening – we didn’t know it was a farewell – he was Tiresia, it was every blind seer of the ancient worlds, full of visions and gaze on the present – what is blindness, if you are able to puncture every darkness?
Who was there, that evening of 11 June 2018 – The only unrepeatable show, “Conversation with Tiresia”, an evening of the ADA, directed by Roberto Andò, the only interpreter Andrea Homer Tiresia Salvo Camilleri – retains his memory as a very precious thing. It was revealing, which is something on the scene only when the sublime goes on stage: we understood how past and future could intertwine through the words of that blind man to whom nothing escaped, and who knew very well the extreme art of the word: when it leverages, creates a community. We were all in a circle around him, at that sacred moment of sharing so familiar on Colle Teneniite. And he, Tiresia, set up our future: with him, never again without him.
