Meeting at MIT, today, between the vice premier and minister Matteo Salvini and the mayor of Messina Federico Basile, dedicated to the project of the bridge over the Strait. Also present were Pietro Ciucci, CEO of the Strait Company of Messina, and Aldo ISI, CEO of RFI.
The meeting, preparatory to the start of the works, served to verify compliance with the scheduled times and to deepen some crucial issues: the issues related to the water resources of the territory, the roads, the living aspects as well as the training of local workers to create new opportunities and jobs for young people in the area.
In particular, in the context of early works presented by the Municipality and approved by the Cipess resolution of 6 August – which will be effective with the registration of the Court of Auditors and the publication in the Official Gazette – it has agreed on the opportunity to give priority to the projects concerning the redevelopment of the water and road network as well as the development of residential units.
For the connection project of the railway fittings of the bridge to the existing line, the technical options that led to the identification of the current “contest” solution compared to previous solutions were illustrated. RFI has committed itself to developing a design optimization study to reduce impacts on the context neighborhood, which will be presented shortly.
The shared goal is the establishment of a “permanent table” on the bridge, to constantly deal with all the issues related to the work, in the interest of the communities involved. After today’s meeting on the Sicilian side, a similar appointment will soon follow on the Calabrian side.
