Two requests for sentence to life imprisonment were formulated by the Prosecutor General to the Court of Assizes of Appeal of Catanzaro against Giuseppe Accorinti, 65, of Zungri, and Saverio Rational, 64 years old, of San Gregorio D’Ippona, believed to be the leading exponents of the ‘Ndrangheta del Vibonese. Both include among the defendants in a semi -pouring truncated born from the anti -mafia operation Renaissance Scott taken in December 2019 with the coordination of the DDA of Catanzaro led at the time by the prosecutor Nicola Gratteri.

Accorinti and rational were condemned at first instance for the murders of Roberto Soriano of Filandari (whose body has never been found) and Antonio Lo Giudice di Piscopio, killed in August 1996 as part of a clash between rival clans. On appeal, therefore, the public accusation asked for confirmation of the first instance verdict with the prison for the two defendants. Both rational and Accorinti are then attributed in another trial – always born from the Investigation Renaissance Scott – where they respond to the crime of mafia association (as promoters of the respective clans) and other crimes other than the murder. In the latter procedure they have already been sentenced to 30 years of imprisonment each at first instance and the appeal process is underway.
