The European Parliament approved – 305 in favor, 151 against and 122 abstentions – resolution on Gaza. The term genocide should have been removed from the text of the resolution.

In the resolution, the Parliament “strongly condemns the blocking of humanitarian aid to Gaza by the Israeli government, which caused a famine in the north of Gaza, and asks for the opening of all the relevant border crossings”. He invites to urgently restore the mandate and funding of UNRWA, with rigorous control, and firmly opposes the current aid distribution system.

The deputies, alarmed by serious food deficiencies and malnutrition due to the restriction of aid, ask for full access, safe and without obstacles to food, water, medical supplies and shelter, as well as the immediate restoration of vital infrastructures. They urge all parties to respect their humanitarian obligations pursuant to international law.
In the resolution, the deputies support the decision of the President of the European Commission to suspend the bilateral support of the EU in Israel and to partially suspend the EU-Israel agreement in commercial matters. The deputies ask for complete investigations on all war crimes and violations of international law, and call all responsible to answer their actions. They also support EU sanctions against violent Israeli colonists and activists in occupied and Jerusalem Est, and against Israeli ministers Bezalel Smotrich and Itamar Ben-Gvir.

The Parliament invites the institutions and the EU countries to take diplomatic steps to guarantee the commitment to the solution of the two states, with concrete political progress towards its realization, in view of the United Nations General Assembly of September 2025. He underlines the need for complete demilitarization to Gaza and Hamas’ exclusion from the government, asking for the return of a Palestinian authority reformed as the only government body. According to deputies, the creation of a state of Palestine is fundamental for peace, the security of Israel and regional normalization. In addition, they invite Member States to evaluate the possibility of recognizing the Palestine state to support the solution of the two states.

The deputies ask for a ceased for immediate and permanent fire and the immediate and unconditional release of all the Israeli hostages detained in Gaza, inviting the EU and the Member States to make use of their diplomatic influence to exercise pressure on Hamas to accept to free all the hostages. The Parliament condemns in the hardest terms the “barbaric crimes” of Hamas against Israel and asks for concrete sanctions against the terrorist group, reaffirming the commitment to the safety of Israel and its “inalienable right to self -defense” in compliance with international law, recognizing that Israel remains a strategic partner of the EU in the fight against terrorism in the region. However, he underlines that this right cannot justify indiscriminate military actions in Gaza and expresses concern for continuous military operations in the Gaza Strip, which have translated into unbearable sufferings for the civilian population, while denouncing the use of civilians as human shields by Hamas.
