At the inauguration of the academic year at the University of Calabria, the center -right candidate for the next regional ones, Roberto Occhiuto, reiterated the project of the new hospital in the Unical area, in line with what was announced by the outgoing rector Nicola Leone. “Here the Polyclinic will be done – he said – and it will be born quite quickly because I will use the special powers of the Civil Protection”. Occhiuto recalled that he had resigned, but to count “from 7 October” to resume the function and proceed “with the same speed as the Sibaritide hospital”.
For Occhiuto, the relationship between the Faculty of Medicine and the Regional Health System is decisive: “It is the main road to improve performance”. He recalled the results of Catanzaro and the start of the Faculty of Medicine in Cosenza, with new excellence and the activation of cardiac surgery “by the end of October”.
On the budget of the Unical and the Rectorate of Leone, Occhiuto speaks of the university “authentic excellence”, citing the judgments of Censis and other institutes, and is said to be “proud of the work done”.
Finally, the training and escape node of the young people: “The more students enroll in Calabria, the more they remain to work here”. After the criticisms for the “duplication” (and then “triplication”) of medicine, it claims the choice: “We lack doctors and specialized … from here to a few years we will have many Calabrian doctors graduated and specialized here thanks to the regional bags”.
