Sicily, Calenda still attacks Schifani: “The appointments used as an exchange commodity, the Sicilians deserve more”

The political clash in Sicily between the president of the region Renato Schifani and the leader of action, Carlo Calenda, lights up. At the center of the debate, also the management of appointments in participatory companies.

“Schifani says that I offended Sicily? To offend it is the way he manages the appointments of companies that should do the good of the Sicilians, used as an exchange for the membership of Forza Italia. The Sicilians must free themselves from this yoke. Schifani thinks they are God, like Louis XIV in France”, attacked Calenda during a press conference in Palermo.

The action leader denounced what defines a systematic party division of the armchairs: “I have the list of each individual appointment with the political party of reference beside the political party and there is not one that is made on the basis of the merit. On this a principle of decoration must be restored”.

Criticisms with statute and participatory

Calenda has relaunched her critical judgment on Sicilian autonomy, stating that in the last eighty years “we have seen the failure of the special statute and the worsening of services to citizens”. He pointed the finger above all against fragmentation in the management of water resources: “There are fifty companies that deal with water and a water network is missing. The same applies to transport and health, sectors where we have witnessed gruesome scenes. The Sicilians have the right to the same services of the rest of the country: if the region is unable to disburse them, the state must intervene”.

The (partial) support of La Vardera

Next to Calenda, the regional deputy and leader of the countercurrent movement, Ishmael La Vardera, who reiterated the battle against the secret vote at the Ars, called “a barbarism that allows deputies to exercise an undue blackmail on the junta”. “Sicily is not commissioned, it is governed with serious and prepared people,” however, the Vardera specified, distancing the most radical positions of calenda on the abolition of the statute. “On this Carlo is wrong, but I share the battle for transparency and against the secret vote”.

Appeal to the center -left

Oppositions are also in the sights of calenda: “I appeal to the PD and the M5S, to Schlein and Conte: renounced the shares in the regional financial. The opposition must refuse the bridges”. With hard and provocative tones, the action leader has chosen Palermo to reiterate his breakdown with the Sicilian political system, accused of clientelism and poor administrative capacity.
