The Court of Review of Reggio Calabria accepted the appeal presented by lawyers Sandro Furfaro and Vincenzo Nobile, ordering the revocation of house arrest against Sebastiano Strangio, a 50-year-old resident of San Luca, involved in the “Millenium” investigation conducted by the anti-mafia district prosecutor’s office. Strangio was accused of political-mafia exchange voting in competition with others, for having favored a candidate in the 2020 regional elections.
However, the defense highlighted a series of elements that called into question the validity of the accusation. In the municipality of San Luca – residence of the suspect and his family – the candidate obtained just 36 votes. A negligible number, especially in light of the fact that almost all of Strangio’s close family members did not go to the polls, with the exception of his father-in-law. The absence of a criminal record for mafia-type crimes, confirmed by the criminal record, also strengthens the suspect’s position.
