“In a fundamental historical moment for our territory, heavily penalized by a road and rail infrastructure gap, also learning of the possible logistical difficulties of the Strait airport, limited by a possible fuel shortage, makes us raise the alarm level. The growth in tourist presences recorded last year in the metropolitan area of Reggio Calabria and in the city of the Bronzes, was facilitated by the increase in air connections which, with the sole presence of Ryanair, allowed a greater influx of arrivals. Operation of the Strait airport is therefore highly strategic for the tourism sector and all the related activities. It is necessary to have certain guarantees on its functionality, also in consideration of a catchment area that encompasses a large part of the Messina area. The institutions, at multiple levels, must work together, aware that a region like Calabria, due to its infrastructural difficulties, is able to compensate for the full enjoyment of the right to mobility Calabria Region to prevent a possible fuel limitation at the ‘Tito Minniti’ Strait Airport from generating further difficulties for flights, further isolating our territory”. Thus the acting metropolitan mayor of Reggio Calabria, Carmelo Versace.
