Civil Protection exercise in Montalto Uffugo: test of the IT-alert system at the Gargano Gas plant

Next Wednesday 15 April, from 09.30 to 12.30, the Prefecture of Cosenza will coordinate the carrying out of a real-scale exercise aimed at testing the implementation of the External Emergency Plan of the Gargano Gas industrial plant in Montalto Uffugo at risk of a major accident; on this occasion, the use of the national public warning system IT-alert will be tested, aimed at informing the population in the event of serious imminent or ongoing emergencies.

How to receive the message on mobile devices

The IT-alert test message will be issued by the National Department of Civil Protection, following the transmission of the alert, to the turned-on cell phones of all those who will be present or transit within a 3 km radius of the Gargano Gas plant.

Institutional coordination and subjects involved

The planning of the exercise, shared at the table convened by Prefect Rosa Maria Padovano today, clarified the steps necessary for an effective carrying out of the experimentation through the involvement of all the components of the Rescue Coordination Centre; The meeting was also attended by representatives of the National Department of Civil Protection, the Municipalities of Montalto Uffugo and Rende as well as the companies that own the Gargano Gas and Butan Gas plants at risk of major accidents, both located in the municipal area of ​​Montalto Uffugo.

Objectives of the experiment

The general objective of the exercise will be to test the effectiveness of the civil protection and environmental protection response provided, in the event of a major accident, by the structures and bodies involved, in terms of adequacy of the planned coordination mechanism and flexibility of adaptation to the ongoing event.

Meeting of the Rescue Coordination Center

The Rescue Coordination Center will meet on the same date as April 15th in order to verify the results of the experiment in real time.
