Head and heart. Clarity in the most delicate moments and ability to react if the match gets complicated. Paolo Bianco is thus preparing his Monza for the Serie B playoff final against Catanzaro, scheduled for Sunday 24 May at 8pm at the “Ceravolo” stadium.
The red and white coach, who spoke at a press conference two days before the match, knows well that the Calabrian trip will represent a decisive turning point in the race towards Serie A. “In these matches we must limit errors, because we have very little time to recover. But we must also know that a negative episode does not compromise a 180-minute double match”, he explained.
“Catanzaro has quality and experience”
Bianco indicated continuity of performance as one of the fundamental aspects of the double match, recalling what happened in the semi-final against Juve Stabia: “In Castellammare we left the match 20 minutes and conceded two goals. If we managed to stay in the match for 180 minutes, the team would have all the qualities to complete this mission”.
A reference that also recalls the last match against Catanzaro, played on 6 April, when the Giallorossi took the lead after just six minutes with Pontisso, before the equalizer scored by Pessina in added time.
The Monza coach then openly recognized the value of the work done at the Giallorossi: “Aquilani has a squad made up of young and enthusiastic players, but three of them play in the starting eleven. The others are very experienced players”.
The praise to Aquilani and the Giallorossi club
Words of esteem also for the Catanzaro coach and for the club’s structure: “Alberto Aquilani is a strong coach and works with a sporting director like Ciro Polito, who is a friend of mine, and with a serious president who does things well. If a club gets to play in Serie A, it means that there is a very important job from all the members behind it.”
Bianco also returned to the end of the regular season, which saw Monza lose ground in the race for direct promotion: “We had a great opportunity for the direct Serie A, if we didn’t reach it it was both our fault and thanks to the others.”
