The renovation work on the accommodation intended to accommodate families from the barracks is progressing at full speed in Messina. The interventions were arranged by the rehabilitation commissioner structure led by the President of the Region Renato Schifani.
There are 69 apartments located in different areas of the city that the offices directed by sub-commissioner Santi Trovato have assigned to 13 companies to plan and carry out the renovation works. There are 22 properties completed and ready for delivery and the dates for completion of maintenance in the others have already been defined.
In another 33 apartments, work is underway, while in another 14 it is already scheduled. By the end of May the companies will deliver 8 apartments to the commissioner offices, another 19 will be completed by the end of June, 7 by the end of July, 3 by the end of August and, finally, 10 by the end of September.
«We are making our maximum effort – says Schifani – to ensure accommodation worthy of this name for the families coming from the barracks. We intend to close forever a bitter page in the history of the city of Messina, a wound to heal as soon as possible. We will ensure that the renovation works on all these 69 homes proceed regularly, just as we continue to work actively for the construction of the new properties included in the redevelopment plan.”
The works range from the installation of fixtures, doors, windows, to the arrangement of new toilets, boilers, electrical systems, air conditioners, up to painting, flooring and all those interventions that make a home fully comfortable and safe. There are numerous homes that require major interventions before being assigned to families.
