The proclamation ceremony of Francesco Cannizzaro as mayor of Reggio Calabria will take place tomorrow. Cannizzaro himself and the President of the Court Giuseppe Campagna agreed to postpone the start from 6.30pm to 8.00pm so as not to overlap with the funeral of a 6-year-old girl scheduled for 3.30pm in the Cathedral Basilica of the Cathedral of Reggio Calabria.
The drama of little Eva Santisi
Little Eva Santisi died suddenly on Saturday evening in Melicucco, while she was at home with her grandparents with her mother. Today the little girl’s body was subjected to an autopsy at the Messina Polyclinic. The causes of the death which shocked the community of Melicucco and Reggio Calabria are currently unknown.
Francesco Cannizzaro’s decision as a sign of mourning
«As soon as I learned that little Eva’s funeral would be celebrated tomorrow, Thursday 28 May, the same day on which the ceremony of my proclamation as mayor was scheduled by the offices – states Cannizzaro – I immediately asked the president of the Court of Reggio Calabria Giuseppe Campagna to postpone the ceremony that concerns me to another date. In the impossibility of being able to postpone it, for technical bureaucratic reasons, with President Campagna, whom I thank for his sensitivity, we agreed to postpone the time, initially scheduled for 6.30 pm, as a sign of respect for the terrible loss that has affected the little girl’s family and all the citizens of Reggio. Therefore, the proclamation will be celebrated at 8 pm.”
