It will remain a bitter May 10th in the history of Messina with the relegation to Eccellenza after the play-out on the Ragusa pitch. It was a little less so for a former Giallorossi like Domenico Giampà, divided between the joy of the salvation achieved with his Nola (1-1 in the home play-out of group H against Heraclea) and the disappointment for the result of the biancoscudata team: «After my play-out was over I went to find out about the Messina match and I couldn’t believe it. It is unthinkable that Messina is relegated and has to play in Eccellenza.”
Words that certify all the disbelief of those who lived through the golden years of the Giallorossi’s history and now, even from the outside and from afar, are unable to give themselves an explanation after a verdict of such magnitude: «I would never have expected it, also because at a certain point the team had almost pulled itself out of the relegation zone with Mister Romano and sporting director Martello. They had built the team, then there was a change of sporting director and coach and something happened. They were recovering, then everything changed and I’m sorry”, continued Mister Giampà who, from 2004 to 2006, wore the Giallorossi shirt between Serie B and Serie A.
Even the change of club, with the arrival of the Racing City Group, which brought greater certainty and stability after the summer crisis and the risk of bankruptcy, was not enough to straighten out the season which began with a 14 point penalty.
