Asd San Matteo plays a lot on the pitch, but the current sporting season will also remain impressed due to the extraordinary growth of the club. Let’s start from the results on the pitch: victory in Serie C, won by a group made up almost entirely of Under 19s; victory of the Serie B Sicily Championship, a title that tells of identity, work and belonging; Under 14 national finals, a result that certifies the growth of the youth sector.

But the truth is that these successes are just the tip of the iceberg. There is much more behind it: there are the stories that make up that of society like a mosaic. A company that has been helping Messina grow for over thirty years. Asd San Matteo is one of the historic clubs of Messina women’s basketball. “For over thirty years we have been pursuing a simple and powerful idea: sport as a tool for growth, education and community – are the words of vice president Bianca Bonaccorsi -. We do it every day, even where it is most difficult”.

Mini basketball lives and resists in neighborhoods such as Viale Giostra, Fondo Fucile and other complex areas of the city, where sport becomes a social support, a point of reference, an opportunity for many boys and girls who deserve real opportunities. And then there are inclusion, talent, examples that inspire: “He plays in our first team Simona Cascio, award-winning athlete of National Deaf Women’s Basketball Teaman example of determination and pride for all our young people. And next to her two Under 14 girls are growing up, ready to wear the national team jersey: a concrete sign of the quality of our youth work. Alongside the women’s sector, we also carry forward with conviction the Baskina discipline that allows boys and girls with disabilities to experience basketball in a truly inclusive context. It’s not a side project. it’s part of our identity”.

Beyond the field, then there is the territorial mission. “This season has given us trophies, emotions and pride. But what we want to tell is something else. San Matteo is a community, a social project, a movement. And every victory, every training session, every smile on our fields is a piece of a story that continues to grow.” Hence an appeal to all those interested in being part of this moment: “If anyone has ideas, energy, skills, support or simply wants to lend a hand, the doors are open – added Bonaccorsi -. Every contribution, large or small, is good for the movement, is good for our girls, is good for our neighborhoods, is good for the city. Because San Matteo is not just a team. It is a project that belongs to everyone”.
