The Smile Cosenza women’s water polo team, protagonist of a historic season which culminated with the victory of the Conference Cup – the first Italian club to do so – and with fifth place in Serie A1 and access to the championship playoffs, announced today in a press conference that it will not submit an application to register for the next A1 championship.

«A painful choice, made – as explained by the management – for reasons not dependent on the will of the club, but linked to the impossibility of planning the competitive activity without the certainty of a suitable and continuously available structure». President Francesco Manna clarified the company’s position: «Today we are not here to point the finger at anyone, but to make a responsible decision. We cannot plan contracts, staff and activities without the certainty of a facility that guarantees regular training and competitive continuity. Top sport requires planning, it cannot live in uncertainty.” Manna recalled how the municipal outdoor swimming pool, fundamental for competitive activity, will not be available before June 15th, with heavy repercussions on preparation, youth activities and historical events. «We had built a championship team. But without certainties we cannot move forward”, underlines the management.
