Serious road accident today evening, around 7.30pm, along the busy artery near the bridge over the Petrace river, a particularly congested stretch in this summer period due to the strong influx of swimmers heading towards the Palmi tuna fishery.

Car-motorcycle collision

For reasons still being ascertained by the police, a white Fiat Panda proceeding towards Palmi apparently began a turning maneuver towards Via Toscanini when it collided with a large-displacement motorcycle coming from the opposite direction, coming from Palmi and heading towards Gioia Tauro. The impact was particularly violent. The young motorcyclist was thrown onto the asphalt suffering several injuries. Officers from the local police station, 118 health personnel and an ambulance immediately responded to the scene and provided initial treatment to the injured man.

After being stabilized, the young man was urgently transferred to the “Santa Maria degli Ungheresi” hospital in Polistena, where he is hospitalized with a reserved prognosis. According to initial information, his condition is serious due to polytrauma, but his life is not in danger. The accident caused serious repercussions on road traffic. For several hours traffic remained practically paralyzed, with numerous motorists forced to reverse direction Palmi to reach the motorway and return to Gioia Tauro via the motorway junction. Late in the evening the State Police officers were still present at the scene of the accident to carry out the technical investigations necessary to reconstruct the exact dynamics of the event. Investigations continue to clarify every aspect of the accident.
