Moments of apprehension this morning in the waters of the Aeolian Islands. A person, who accidentally fell into the sea from a pleasure craft departing from Capo d’Orlando and heading to the island of Salina, was found in good health after an intense search operation coordinated by the Lipari Coast Guard.

The report reached the Lipari Coast Guard Operations Room, which immediately activated the search and rescue device (SAR).
The operations saw the use of three naval units, while the intervention of a helicopter was also requested, so as to broaden the radius of the searches in the affected area.
The discovery after more than an hour
The search activities continued without interruption and, approximately one hour and fifteen minutes after the report, the missing person was identified in good health, approximately four nautical miles south of the island of Salina.
The discovery allowed the rescue operation to be concluded positively.
The Coast Guard’s appeal
In the statement released at the end of the intervention, the Coast Guard highlighted the efficiency of the maritime search and rescue system and renewed the invitation to all boaters and sea users to adopt behaviors based on the utmost prudence, using individual safety devices and respecting navigation regulations, in order to prevent dangerous situations.
