In the early afternoon of today, June 30, around 1.30 pm, a team of the Fire Brigade from the Vibo Valentia Command intervened in the municipality of Monterosso Calabro, in the Movrella area, to rescue a missing cyclist.
The man, a 57-year-old, while traveling on a mountain bike, left the cycle path and entered the dense vegetation. After losing his bearings, he requested help by contacting the emergency services.
The Operations Room of the Vibo Valentia Fire Brigade immediately activated the localization procedures, making use of personnel specialized in Topography Applied to Rescue (TAS). Thanks to the geolocation of the mobile phone in the cyclist’s possession, it was possible to precisely identify his position and promptly direct the rescue team to the scene.
The Fire Brigade personnel reached the man inside the wooded area, recovered him and brought him safely back to the cycle path.
The intervention concluded with a positive outcome thanks to the rapid coordination of the Operations Room and the professionalism of the personnel involved, confirming once again the importance of geolocalisation technologies and specialist skills in rescue in impervious environments.
