ORRICO (M5S): PEPPE VALARIOTI REMEMBERED IN THE CHAMBER, CIVIL RESISTANCE FIGURE WHO PAID WITH HIS LIFE FOR HIS COMPLAINTS AGAINST NDRANGHETA AND DARK POWERS
“Forty-six years after the murder, still without culprits, of Peppe Valarioti, we wanted to remind the Chamber of Deputies of his figure and his political stature by organizing, together with the vice-president Sergio Costa, the screening of the docufilm ‘Medma does not bend’ produced by Ugly Films which we thank for the exciting artistic contribution. The idea was to tell a story of Calabria different from the usual, which still today shocks the sensibilities of some and which must act as an inspiration for new generations. A story of civil resistance, of anti-Ndrangheta antelitteram rooted in the political action of a young leader of the PCI from Rosarno who in the years of lead of our country denounced, paying with his life, the mixes with the dark powers and the appetites of an ‘ndrangheta that rediscovered itself as an entrepreneur and omnivore”. Thus the deputy of the 5 Star Movement Anna Laura Orrico.
Also present at the screening of the film in the Sala Matteotti of the Chamber of Deputies, which was followed by a participatory debate with the public, were the journalist and author of the work Gianluca Palma, the producer of Ugly films Mauro Nigro, Vanessa Ciurleo, Valarioti’s niece, Marina Pierlorenzi of Anpi Roma.
The vice president of the Chamber of Deputies, the five-star MP Sergio Costa, in his institutional greetings, in addition to recalling the high human and political profile of Valarioti, also highlighted the desire to organize, again in Parliament, a future initiative dedicated to the phenomenon of all mafias, giving space to the many Italian civil heroes who over the years have paid an extreme tribute to defend the values of legality and constitutional principles.
