Moments of apprehension in the afternoon on board the Celebrity Ascent cruise ship, which had just set sail from the port of Messina, when a passenger suffered a sudden illness. The commander, having assessed the situation together with the on-board doctor, initially ordered the return of the ship towards the Peloritano port to allow rapid rescue. In the meantime, the Messina Coast Guard was alerted and reached the unit with a patrol boat. The Captaincy crew then took steps to transfer the passenger, her husband and the on-board doctor, transferring them safely to the small port of Marina del Nettuno.

From there the woman was entrusted to the 118 health personnel, who arranged for her to be transferred to hospital for the necessary checks and treatment. Once the patient had disembarked, the Celebrity Ascent remained waiting for the return of the on-board doctor, essential to continue sailing safely, moored in front of Pace beach. Only after his return to the ship was the commander able to resume the planned route. The intervention took place quickly and without further critical issues, thanks to the timely coordination between the ship’s command, the Coast Guard and the medical workers who intervened.
