The redevelopment interventions in the Crotone railway station, on the Ionian line, have been concluded to improve accessibility, usability of spaces and quality of services offered to travellers, in compliance with current standards. The intervention to improve accessibility on the first platform of Sibari station has also been completed. This is what Trenitalia communicates. The works carried out on the two stations involved a total investment of over 19 million euros, also financed with Pnrr funds.
«In Crotone station, in particular – it is written in a press release – the platforms have been adapted, raising them to a height of 55 cm, a European standard to facilitate the boarding and alighting of travelers on trains; the tactile paths dedicated to people with reduced vision, flooring, lighting and station signs were also replaced. On the vertical connections front, the accessibility improvement works involved the insertion of three newly built elevators serving the three station platforms respectively, and the adaptation of the stairs and access routes to European accessibility standards, ensuring full usability of the spaces and the elimination of architectural barriers. The station underpass has been redeveloped both from a functional and aesthetic point of view, through new flooring, coverings and the adaptation of the lighting system”. The interventions also involved the restyling of the traveler’s building with the restoration and enhancement of the historic façade; the station concourse and waiting room were also renovated. «The external spaces have also been redeveloped: the architectural barriers present on the sidewalk in front of the station entrance have been eliminated and new stalls reserved for people with reduced mobility have been created, contributing to improving comfort, accessibility and the overall quality of the travel experience in the station».
In Sibari station, as part of the improvements to public services, work was completed on the first platform, now adjusted to a level of h55, with the replacement of the paving and tactile paths. The station lighting and signs are also new. «Currently – explains the note – planning is underway for the restyling and seismic improvement interventions of the passenger building and for the adaptation of the accessibility of the second and third pavements. Finally, also in the Sibari station, the new General Master Plan has already been activated. Thanks to this intervention, the station – it should be noted – is now adapted to the 750 meter module, which inserts it into the broader performance improvement project of the Taranto-Gioia Tauro line, in order to increase freight traffic on the entire network, favoring the modal shift from road to rail. Furthermore, the interventions now allow for more efficient management of traffic, improving its regularity.”
