The countdown has already begun. By next July 21st the Municipality of Reggio Calabria will have to renew the Castore operating contract. This is the in-house company that provides numerous maintenance services in the municipal area, which has already been extended for three months in recent weeks.

Mayor Francesco Cannizzaro spoke about the future of the company, meeting all the workers on Wednesday evening.

The first meeting with the Castore workers

Cannizzaro explained that he wanted to personally meet the workers to get to know them and discuss with them the work carried out daily in the service of the city.

“They themselves – he revealed – told me that it was the first time the mayor was meeting the workers. Castore is crucial for the activities of ordinary services for the city, I felt it was my duty to meet them in the meantime to get to know each other and look each other in the eyes, thank them for all the work they have done and are doing”.

«I will bring the extension of their activity to the city council»

However, the most politically relevant passage in the mayor’s declarations concerns the future of the company. Cannizzaro has in fact announced that the extension of Castore’s activity will be included among the items on the agenda of the next municipal council.

“Among the points – the mayor announced – on the agenda, I will bring the extension of this activity of theirs to the next city council, taking responsibility together with the city council. A necessary action. One day someone will have to explain to me why it wasn’t done before my arrival, but that matters little. The mayor is looking, as already said, to the future”.

Finally, the mayor also opened up to the possibility of strengthening the company, both from an organizational and employment point of view, announcing his intention to implement all available administrative and regulatory tools.
