The presentation of the volume “Don’t call it love. Those good guys who kill”, written by the Rai journalist Vittoriana Abate and the lawyer and university professor Cataldo Calabretta, published by Graus Edizioni, took place in the Hall of the Institute of Santa Maria in Aquiro, on the initiative of Senator Tilde Minasi. The event recorded a significant participation of representatives of the institutions, the judiciary, the legal profession, the world of information and associations involved in the protection of women victims of violence.
The proceedings were opened by institutional greetings from Senator Tilde Minasi, who reiterated the need for a shared commitment on a cultural, social and regulatory level to combat gender violence.
The meeting was moderated by Rai journalist and president of Giornaliste Italiane Paola Ferazzoli, who led a high-profile discussion between authoritative representatives of the institutions and the legal world.
The intervention of the Hon. was particularly significant. Martina Semenzato, president of the parliamentary commission of inquiry into femicide and gender violence, who signs the preface of the volume. In his speech he defined Don’t call it love as “one of the best works carried out in recent years on this topic”, underlining how it represents “an extremely useful tool” for understanding the roots of gender violence, promoting a new cultural awareness and strengthening prevention action.
Words that confirmed the value of the work, born from the encounter between the rigor of Vittoriana Abate’s journalistic investigation and the in-depth legal analysis of Cataldo Calabretta. The volume addresses the phenomenon of femicide through the analysis of some of the most important cases in Italian news, accompanying them with a reflection on recent legislative developments, from the Red Code to the introduction of the autonomous crime of femicide.
Also of particular importance are the contributions of the lawyer. Claudia Eccher, lay member of the Superior Council of the Judiciary, of the magistrate Valerio De Gioia, of the Hon. Ilaria Cavo, of the lawyer. Laura Sgrò, of the lawyer. The recognition expressed by president Martina Semenzato constitutes an important attestation of the value of the work carried out by the authors and of the usefulness of a volume destined to become a point of reference for legal practitioners, journalists, institutions and citizens, in the belief that knowledge represents the first and most effective tool for preventing violence and building a more aware society.
