The former mayor of Cotronei Nicola Belcastro, two managers of the same body (the technicians Antonio Urso and Gaetano Scavelli) and two entrepreneurs (Francesca Aceto and Andrea Pariano) are being investigated, in various capacities, by the Crotone Prosecutor’s Office for false ideology in a public document, fraud in public supplies, environmental pollution, aggravated fraud against the Public Administration and corruption in the exercise of the function, in relation to the management of the service for the transfer and treatment of the organic fraction of urban waste between 2020 and 2022.

The carabinieri of the Petilia Policastro Company served the five today with the notice of conclusion of the preliminary investigations. The activity, developed by the soldiers of the Cotronei station through documentary acquisitions, analysis of administrative documents, questioning of people informed of the facts, technical consultancy and accounting insights, would have allowed us to reconstruct in detail the accusatory structure and the specific illicit conduct attributed to the suspects.

The investigations revealed the systematic contamination of the surface waters of the Valle Sbarra ditch and the spillage of eluate and percolate onto the ground due to the absolute inadequacy of the plant’s containment structures (whose perimeter walls were made of simple, easily permeable concrete blocks).
