On the evening of 7 August 2026, at the “Falcone-Borsellino” airport in Cinisi, the Carabinieri of the Montalbano Elicona and Terme Vigliatore stations, with the support of the Carabinieri of the Compagnia di Carini, arrested a 38-year-old from Catania, already known to the police forces and wanted as the recipient of a precautionary custody order in prison, issued by the GIP of the Court of Barcellona Pozzo di Gotto (ME), held responsible for aggravated fraud in conspiracy against two elderly people.
Scams with the “so-called Carabiniere” method
The precautionary measure represents the development of targeted investigative activities carried out by the soldiers of the Carabinieri, following two separate episodes of fraud carried out with the “self-styled Carabiniere” and occurred on 27 April 2026 in Montalbano Elicona and on 30 April 2026 in Terme Vigliatore.
Wanted since August 4, arrested upon returning to Italy
The 38-year-old had been wanted since 4 August 2026, the day on which he became untraceable because he fled abroad but, since then, his movements have been constantly monitored by the Carabinieri, who intercepted him last night on his return to Italy, immediately after disembarking from a flight from Madrid.
The operation is part of the daily activities implemented by the Carabinieri to combat scams against vulnerable individuals.
The arrested person, after the formalities, was transferred to the Palermo prison at the disposal of the Judicial Authority.
