Cosenza loses one of its most representative protagonists in the art world. Giulio Telarico, painter and sculptor from Cosenza, an important figure in the Calabrian and national artistic panorama, has died. Mayor Franz Caruso remembered him, expressing the condolences of the municipal administration and the city.
«Another serious loss in the world of Cosenza art after that of Giuseppe Filosa», stated the mayor, defining Telarico as an artist «with a noble soul» and one of the most elegant and refined expressions of Calabrian art.
The link with the historic center
Caruso recalled in particular the contribution offered by Telarico to the valorisation of the historic center of Cosenza, through his works, exhibitions and intense cultural promotion activity. «A tireless researcher and experimenter of new artistic horizons», Telarico has been the protagonist and inspirer of numerous initiatives over the years.
«From today our city is certainly poorer – underlined Caruso – because with the passing of Giulio Telarico Cosenza loses not only a master of creativity and life, but also an authentic poet of art». According to the mayor, the artist was able to demonstrate how contemporary art could also find space among the stones and history of the ancient city.
In his paintings, Caruso again recalled, “the visual soul of the city” often recurs, made up of plasters marked by time, alleys, plays of light and shadow and colors capable of conveying atmospheres deeply linked to Cosenza.
Teaching at the Art High School
An important role in Telarico’s life was also that of teacher and trainer at the Art School. In his classrooms, the mayor highlighted, generations of students grew up to whom the artist passed on his passion for art and an attentive gaze towards the beauty of the city and Calabria.
Some of his works are kept in the National Gallery of Cosenza and represent, in Caruso’s words, “the concrete and tangible sign of a great artist” who dedicated energy and talent to making Cosenza a lively center of cultural debate.
Finally, the mayor addressed his personal condolences and those of the entire municipal administration to Giulio Telarico’s family.
