The deadline for submitting amendments to the reform of the Italian port system has passed. Between the push forward and the need for intervention on the governance of the sector, the implications of the Government bill currently being examined by the Chamber’s Transport Commission will have a significant impact on Calabrian ports. The reform scheme has entered the final phase of implementation and the final word will most likely come in the autumn, with the final green light of the text within the year and the actual start of the new discipline in 2027. Few reservations from the centre-right regions even if greater autonomy of the Authorities is called for.
Instead, the Democratic Party declares: «The strategic plan for ports should be defined at a national level, but involving the territories. As the Emilia-Romagna Region we have formally asked the Government to stop on the new port reform, which centralizes administrative and operational management in Rome, taking away the skills and resources from the port system authorities which must remain firmly in the hands of these bodies, and does not guarantee the involvement of the territories in the definition of strategic choices”. These are the words of the president of the Emilia-Romagna Region, Michele de Pascale, who spoke during the hearing of the Conference of Regions before the Transport Commission of the Chamber of Deputies, as part of the examination of the bill to reform port governance.
The Calabria Region expressed a favorable opinion on the project, as can be seen from the report of the meeting of the State-Regions Conference: a contrary opinion was expressed by the regions of Campania, Emilia-Romagna, Puglia, Sardinia and Tuscany.
