A free course to train seamstresses and help costume designers for the cinema and audiovisual industry. The initiative is promoted by the Anica Academy Ets Foundation and the Calabria Film Commission Foundation, with the patronage of the Asc – Italian Association of set designers, costume designers and decorators.
The course is reserved for residents of Calabria and aims to strengthen the professional skills present in the area, responding to the needs of cinematographic and audiovisual productions. Participants will be prepared to create costumes for cinema, serials, theater and other forms of entertainment.
The program includes theoretical lessons on the history of costume and fashion and on script reading, alongside practical laboratory activities. There are also seminars dedicated to cinematographic tailors such as Tirelli, Anna Mode and Farani and masterclasses with costume designers.
«The course will contribute to valorising an ancient and precious profession, which combines artisanal skill, historical research and artistic vision, training new professionals in the Calabrian territory», states the president of Anica Academy Ets Francesco Rutelli. The objective, he adds, is to enrich the skills of the production and creative supply chain from a regional and national perspective.
The president of the Calabria Film Commission Foundation, Anton Giulio Grande, explains that the path will train “competent and cultured figures”, also stimulating creativity. Students will work with professionals specialized in cutting, sewing and pattern techniques, using professional equipment and delving into the history of art, costume and fashion.
Requirements and location of lessons
The call is aimed at residents of Calabria aged between 18 and 50, with tailoring skills and a good knowledge of female and male techniques. A specific diploma is not required, but one obtained in the fields of fashion or art will be preferred. Candidates must present a portfolio of the garments created, including through images or videos.
The course, financed by the Calabria Film Commission Foundation, is completely free and has a maximum of 15 participants. The selection will be entrusted to a scientific commission composed of the film producer Andrea Stucovitz, the ASC costume designer Sabrina Beretta and the director of Anica Academy Ets Sergio Del Prete.
The lessons will begin on September 28th and will take place in person in the spaces of the Terina Foundation, in the Benedict XVI industrial area, in the Ficarella area of Lamezia Terme.
