Turkey has issued an international arrest warrant for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in the Gaza Flotilla case.
This was announced by the Ankara government. Turkey has also issued an international arrest warrant for another Israeli citizen, Afek Moskovitch, Turkish Justice Minister Akin Gurlek said, as part of an investigation into the interception of the Sumud Flotilla and the detention of the activists by Israeli forces last May.
“As part of the legal proceedings related to the attack in international waters against Flotilla activists and in accordance with the arrest warrants issued on July 14, 2026 against Benyamin Netanyahu and Afek Moscowitz for ‘genocide,’ the Ministry of Justice has asked the Ministry of the Interior to issue a ‘red notice’ for their international arrest,” the Turkish minister said.
In Turkey, Netanyahu and Moscowitz are being prosecuted for “crimes against humanity, genocide, aggravated deprivation of liberty, assault and battery, torture, destruction of property, aggravated looting and hijacking of means of transport”, the ministry specified.
In May, around 430 crew members from fifty boats intercepted by the Israeli army in the Mediterranean, west of Cyprus, were forcibly taken to Israel and then detained in Ktziot prison, before being deported. The Israeli Minister of National Security, Itamar Ben-Gvir, sparked international outrage after releasing a video in which he showed himself among the stopped activists forced to his knees and with his hands tied.
“We in no way accept the idea that the Netanyahu government, which carries out a policy of genocide in Gaza, is untouchable and unpunishable. We will not allow the crimes committed in Gaza to be covered up, nor for those responsible to be protected by a shield of impunity. We will resolutely use all the possibilities offered by national and international law,” Turkish Justice Minister Akin Gurlek declared on X.
“Under the leadership of our President Erdogan, we will continue to stand firm and firm alongside the Palestinian people, the oppressed and the conscience of humanity. We will determinedly take all necessary steps so that those who commit crimes against humanity are held accountable before the law,” he concluded.
