A 47-year-old woman was killed, allegedly by her partner, a 60-year-old Italian man, who was arrested by the Guardia Civil in Isla Cristina, in Huelva, Andalusia, according to sources close to the investigation. Officers found the victim’s body, with several stab wounds, on the beach of Punta del Caimán, in the town of Huelva province, according to sources. The Italian was arrested this morning by officers as a suspect in the murder of his partner, a German national.
The call to 112
Sources from Andalusia’s 112 emergency service reported that at 8.50 am a call came in reporting an immobile and unconscious woman on Avenida del Atlántico. Paramedics and local police intervened. Once on site, the officers found the woman on the ground and declared her dead.
The body count
The Guardia Civil took over the investigation to clarify the circumstances of the incident. If the case were confirmed as a femicide, the number of women killed by gender violence this year would rise to 37, and the total since 2003, the year in which statistical surveys began, to 1,378.
