No fear of Futuro Nazionale and its choice to nominate the former group leader of Forza Italia in the Regional Council Domenico Giannetta for the Reggio Calabria by-elections for the Chamber. Thus, in summary, Francesco Cannizzaro, regional secretary of Fi. “We knew it would happen – he said this morning while meeting journalists – and from Reggio we want to launch a real political experiment to demonstrate to the country that the centre-right can easily win even without the follies of Vannacci, who today seems like a phenomenon on the rise, but I can assure you this is not the case”.

Cannizzaro, who resigned from the Chamber after the election as mayor of the city, is keen to underline that the choice of Fabio Roscioli, treasurer of Forza Italia and very close to the Berlusconi family, as the centre-right candidate was his. “It’s a choice – he said – that I made. I could have nominated anyone. In choosing to nominate Roscioli there is a precise political strategy. I could also have avoided the by-elections by postponing my resignation for a few weeks. I personally demanded, with the full agreement of the national party, that the person to replace myself in Parliament should be a man who resides in Rome who knows parliamentary activities well, all the men and women of the government, all the parliamentarians. Because this relationship that I intend to create with my substitute who will be Fabio Roscioli will allow me, mayor of this city, to accelerate those processes to achieve the objectives that Reggio absolutely needs. He will be a temporary candidate and will no longer be a candidate of this constituency”.

Finally, on the choice of the progressive camp to nominate the hospital head and former leader of the PD group in the Municipality Frank Benedetto, Cannizzaro defined him as “Olieverio’s man (Mario Oliverio former president of the Calabria Region, ed.) presented today as a civic candidate. Certainly a good doctor and, nothing personal, on a political level, indicating him to represent Reggio and the metropolitan area in Rome also seems a bit excessive to me”.
