Time passes, but the answers on the future of the A2A plant in San Filippo del Mela continue to fail to arrive. And so the workers’ concern grows, transforming once again into mobilization.
In fact, a new strike is planned tomorrow which will involve direct and related workers, with abstention from the first two hours of each shift and a protest in front of the entrance to the power plant, from 7 to 9. A protest that comes at a particularly delicate moment and which brings back to center stage a question that has been repeated for months in the Valle del Mela: what will become of the power plant and, above all, what future will work have once the current production phase is over?
To date, the Milazzo circles of the Democratic Party and the Young Democrats denounce: “the answers we needed regarding the fate of the plant have not yet arrived.” An uncertainty which, according to the Democrats, leaves hundreds of workers and as many families “hanging by a thread”, directly or indirectly linked to the activities of the plant and related industries. The Democratic Party therefore asks that Rome and Palermo break the delay and urgently convene the long-awaited institutional tables, bringing the Government, Region, A2A, Terna, trade union organizations and local authorities around the same table. Because the issue is not just the fate of a system. It is that of an entire industrial area which in recent years has progressively lost activity and employment and which today risks finding itself faced with a new, decisive break.
