The forest fires that affected various areas of the province of Messina today are being cleaned up. This was announced by the provincial fire brigade command, which speaks of a vast operation to combat multiple fires that have developed in the provincial territory.
The most critical fronts
The greatest critical issues were recorded in particular in the localities of Gallodoro, Letojanni, Taormina, Tortorici and mainly Castelmola, as well as other minor localized interventions.
The rescue device
An impressive rescue operation took part in the firefighting operations, which saw the coordinated use of ordinary teams and special departments of the Fire Brigade, supported by reinforcement teams arriving from the provincial commands of Catania, Enna and Syracuse. The staff of the Forestry Corps of the Sicilian Region and voluntary associations are also operational in the field.
The coordination of the directors of firefighting operations (Dos), both from the Fire Brigade and from the Forestry Service, was crucial, as they directed the use of aerial means to support the teams on the ground, including Canadair aircraft and Erickson and Falco helicopters.
Remediation and checks
Currently the main fires have been contained and put out; the ongoing activities are now focused on the delicate phases of reclamation, minute shutdown and control of the affected areas by the operational teams on the ground, to avoid any restarts.
