This afternoon a large fire broke out in brushwood and piles of abandoned waste in Viale Magna Grecia, in Cosenza. The flames, fed by dry vegetation and piled up material, quickly spread, threatening a fuel station located in the immediate vicinity, making a timely and coordinated intervention necessary.
Multiple teams of the Fire Brigade from the Cosenza Command intervened on site, reinforced by personnel from the Rende detachment, to contain the fire front and secure the area at risk. The firefighting operations were also supported by an aircraft, whose activity was coordinated on the ground by a Director of Firefighting Operations (DOS).
Thanks to the prompt intervention of the teams, it was possible to prevent the fire from reaching the fuel distribution system, thus avoiding potentially serious consequences for public safety.
Reclamation operations in the area are still underway. At the moment there are no reports of anyone involved or injured.
