The critical issues in the Rossano prison do not subside where, this morning, in the High Security department, specifically in the lift shaft, some bags containing mobile phones, rudimentary knives, a professional tattoo machine, complete with accessories, and various tools were found.
“It is plausible to imagine – say Giovanni Battista Durante, deputy general secretary of the Sappe and Francesco Ciccone, national secretary – that the telephones could be used to grant their use or costly transfer to other inmates. It is important to understand these dynamics, but it is equally important to necessarily intensify the prevention work of the penitentiary police, increasing means and resources. For more effective prevention – continue the two trade unionists – it would be appropriate to shield the institutions, so as to make the use of telephones ineffective. Only in this way could it be possible definitively stop the illegal entry of mobile phones into prison, which, moreover, constitutes a crime, a crime whose introduction into the penal code, which took place in 2020, art. 391 ter, has not had the hoped-for deterrent effect”.
