The last session of the Regional Council took place on August 5th. The next one will be convened between the end of this month and the beginning of October. Two months of break for the highest Calabrian elective assembly, but not for its councilors. Engaged for days in commission meetings but without the “rush” to approve measures to bring to the Chamber. There will be time to evaluate the merits of the bills presented, including the one relating to the reform of local public transport which the majority had given the impression of wanting to accelerate.
But what lies behind this change of pace? Nobody says it openly but the drafts coming from the Palace suggest prudence dictated by the need not to risk anything before the celebration of the supplementary elections scheduled in Reggio Calabria on 27 and 28 September.
To bring home the law on TPL, 21 votes are needed, a number equal to a two-thirds majority as indicated by the Calabrian Statute. To date, at least on paper, the centre-right is stuck at 20 after the defeat of Domenico Giannetta, who resigned from the position of group leader of Forza Italia to run as a candidate in the Reggio constituency with Futuro Nazionale for the seat up for grabs in Montecitorio.
