German Marco Brenner (Tudor) wins the 14th stage of the Vuelta a España 2026, the 154.5 kilometer Jaén-Sierra de La Pandera with an uphill finish. Second place for the Colombian Santiago Buitrago (Bahrain-Victorious), leader of the climbers’ classification, third for the Spaniard Cristian Rodriguez (XDS Astana).
Two Italians in the top 10 of the day: eighth Filippo Zana (Soudal-Quick Step), ninth Walter Calzoni (Pinarello-Q 36.5). Good response from the Spanish climber Enric Mas (Movistar): the race leader gains about 25 seconds on Primoz Roglic (Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe), now second in the general at 1’45”.
The escape and the decisive sprint
The day opens with a series of attacks and, after about 30 kilometres, 44 of them gain the margin: the closest to Mas in the standings are Clement Berthet (Groupama-FDJ United) and Cristian Rodriguez. The group lets it run and the leader manages from afar, ending up with a five minute delay.
On the descent after the Los Villares climb, Vermaeke attempted a solo move, but at the start of the last climb he was caught and overtaken by Steinhauser. The German is joined by Martin, then by Aparicio, who remains in the lead in the final four kilometres. In the final he attacks Buitrago, but Brenner responds and wins the two-man sprint.
Tomorrow the 15th stage, the Palma del Río-Córdoba, a medium mountain stage of 189.7 kilometres.
