Violent passenger in flight, immobilized with tape and cable ties

He shouts racist and homophobic slurs during an American Airlines flight and is restrained with duct tape and zip ties by the crew and other travelers. It happened on Thursday 3 September on flight AA 618 headed from Dallas to Newark, more than half way, when the man allegedly threw himself at his seatmate.

The attack on the neighbor

According to American media reports, an African-American member of the crew intervened, and he too was showered with racist insults. The man then continued to vent his anger against his neighbor by destroying his computer.

The hijacking of Baltimore and the arrest

At that point other passengers intervened to contain him and immobilized him with duct tape. The flight was then diverted to Baltimore, where police arrested the passenger, before continuing to its intended destination. The American authorities have opened an investigation into the incident.
