Sincere and heartfelt applause comes from our Trade Union Organization for yet another operation conducted with extraordinary skill, operational acumen and sense of duty by the men and women of the Penitentiary Police serving at the Catanzaro Prison. The news was given by Deputy Regional Secretary Cristina Busà and Local Secretary Antonio Rubino, who strongly underline the importance of vigilant and constant supervision inside and outside penitentiary institutions.
The latest intervention took place during a cleanup activity in the external area of the Catanzaro prison. A Penitentiary officer engaged in the waste collection service noticed some packaging insidiously hidden near the depot. The particular shape and size of the objects immediately made the operator suspicious and he immediately informed his superiors to allow the necessary investigations to be carried out. Subsequent checks and inspections led to the discovery of six mobile phones of different sizes, complete with accessories and related chargers. Material whose introduction into the structure would have represented a very serious risk to the security of the institute and which, thanks to the agent’s attention to detail, was effectively blocked before it could reach its destination.
This successful intervention is not an isolated incident. In fact, only a few days earlier, the police personnel of the same Catanzaro institute had already been involved in another operation: the interception of a parcel with mobile phones dropped through the use of a drone guided by subjects currently unknown. The very colleague who identified the drone had already distinguished himself previously for a further, delicate service operation. On that occasion, during the translation of an inmate at the city emergency room, the prisoner had managed to find a mobile phone hidden inside the hospital toilets.
The latest and umpteenth attempts to violate the security perimeters demonstrate once again how the constant vigilance and preparation of operators represent a fundamental safeguard of legality and safety. They highlight not only the constant inventiveness of crime, but above all the incomparable skill and high professional profile of the women and men of the Penitentiary Police. Agents who, despite often operating under conditions of great stress and staff shortages, continue to demonstrate a truly exemplary attachment to the institutions and a spirit of sacrifice.
