Reggina alone at the top, a splendid normality

Reggina at the solitary top of Group I of Serie D sounds like a return to normality on the banks of the Strait. Yet it took three years and a corporate change to breathe the air of the highest share of the fourth series. Never, since it started again from the amateurs in 2023, had the amaranth team been first (except in cohabitation on the first day of 2024-25). Talking about rediscovered normality does not serve to delegitimize the past any more than the results inadequate to the context have already done, but rather to not glorify the present. In fact, Reggina is there where all the protagonists hired have the burden of making it stay. A mission that will be renewed every day of the championship, starting from tomorrow when the midweek round against Avola is scheduled.
The hard-fought victory in Modica was a reminder: every match can become very difficult. Especially away, where the small pitches play into the hands of the teams who line up with eleven behind the ball line. Home games, on the other hand, can become banana peels to slip on. Contexts in which the concept is elevated according to which, this year even more than the last few seasons, Reggina’s worst opponent is Reggina itself. Especially in this phase in which the engine is not yet running at full speed, as some of the latest arrivals are not in top condition or still looking for the best possible understanding with their teammates.
In Modica, for example, the amaranth team did not find in the substitutions that change of pace that could have guaranteed the doubling and avoided the final risks. It is no coincidence that three of the replacements were important players but arrived at the end of August: Rossetti, Jallow and Magrassi. Circumstances that clarify how wide the margin still is to raise the technical level of a Reggina that had been sparkling in the first two official outings. However, matches like last Sunday’s represent demonstrations of character from a team that managed every phase well. Even with that desire not to give up which can be seen in the determination with which Rosario Girasole went after a ball that others would have given up on and resigned themselves to the goal conceded. From that save on the line a few minutes from the ninetieth minute, Reggina starts again towards the third of the championship.
Tomorrow at the Granillo (6.30 pm) will be the opportunity to see some changes in the eleven due to the rotations linked to the close matches. Marchionni will express himself on this point and will speak at a press conference at 12pm. Updates are awaited on the conditions of Franchini and Guida, who missed the match in Modica. Finally, the final figure for the season ticket campaign was announced: 3,593 cards.
