Starting from the experience of the South Working, already started in Sicily, the centre-left candidate in the by-elections, Frank Benedetto, proposes the “Bridge of Return law”: a measure to combat youth depopulation and create the conditions so that those who have left can return to live and work in Reggio and its territory.
The numbers tell of a silent emergency: in the last six years 12,500 young people have left this territory, what Benedict has already defined during the election campaign as “the largest emigration in republican history in such a short period”. A figure that fits into an even more alarming picture for the province of Reggio, which records a drop in the number of people under 35 of 11.9% in six years, one of the worst performances in Italy, ahead of only five provinces.
