In 2025, 11 Italian regions, almost all concentrated in the center and south, recorded employment rates lower than 74%, of which the lowest were observed in Calabria (50.3%), Campania (50.8%) and Sicily (51.4%). This is what emerges from the Eurostat statistical yearbook on the Regions published today.
A quarter of EU regions below the threshold
Overall, the report notes that around a quarter of all EU regions – 64 out of 244 – had employment rates below that threshold.

On a national basis, after Sicily followed by Puglia (53.2%), Basilicata (61.8%), Sardinia and Molise (62.3%), Abruzzo (67.2%), Lazio (69.3%), Marche (72.9%), Liguria (73.8%), Piedmont (74.3%), Umbria (74.6%), Veneto and Friuli Venezia Giulia (74.7%), Lombardy (75.1%), Tuscany (76%), Trento (77.6%), Valle d’Aosta (77.8%), Bolzano (80%).
