Solidarity and closeness to the lawyer Pierfrancesco Broccio, attacked yesterday, and to the Bar Association of Messina come from the Union of Bar Associations of Sicily, which in a note condemns the incident and draws attention to the safety of the category. «The Union of Bar Associations of Sicily expresses full solidarity and closeness to the lawyer Pierfrancesco Broccio and to the Bar Association of Messina, affected by an unacceptable act of violence against a member. The episode perpetrated against my colleague Broccio represents a further alarm bell on a worrying reality: the lawyer, in the daily exercise of his profession and his irreplaceable social function of protecting rights, is exposed to growing risks and dangers”. The note also focuses on the responsibilities that are attributed to lawyers by clients. «If similar acts of violence denounce a dangerous social drift that must be firmly condemned and repressed, it must also be considered how the figure of the lawyer, an inevitable point of reference in the inefficiencies and delays of the judicial system, is increasingly often, and unfairly, indicated by clients as responsible for the unsatisfactory progress of a trial».
The appeal
Hence the appeal to the institutions: «The Union reiterates the importance of guaranteeing the physical and moral safety of the category and reminds the institutions of their duty to protect the legal profession».
