An intense summer season is coming to an end which saw the Carabinieri, coordinated by the Public Prosecutor’s Office of Paola under the guidance of the Chief Prosecutor Domenico Fiordalisi, engaged in an impressive and uninterrupted safety and prevention device along the entire coast of the upper Tyrrhenian Sea of Cosenza. The action of the Carabinieri, conducted in the field through the widespread presence of its territorial stations, has ensured constant and reassuring closeness in every context: from the nerve centers of the nightlife to the accommodation facilities with the help of the Carabinieri’s NIL and NAS, from seaside beaches to children’s play areas, to large entertainment events, up to patrols with dog units and overflights by the Carabinieri Helicopter Unit which carried out timely overflight and monitoring activities from above over the entire coastal strip and the most critical road arteries.
A complex and articulated device which has led the police stations to operate in perfect synergy with the specialized components and the other police forces and which has seen, to crown the dense network of controls, in recent days the Carabinieri of the Praia a Mare station, with the fundamental support of the “Calabria” Carabinieri Cacciatori Heliborne Squadron and the soldiers of the Scalea Company, carry out an important anti-drug operation in a rural location in the Municipality of Tortora.
The intervention made it possible to dismantle a real hub of rural drug dealing: after an attempt to escape on a motorbike by two young people, who were immediately blocked and found in possession of several doses of cocaine already packaged and ready for sale, the Benemerita soldiers raided an agricultural farmhouse. The search conducted inside revealed a real drug powerhouse: inside the farmhouse and in the immediate surroundings, several kilograms of narcotic substance were seized including marijuana in branches and hashish, further cash for over a thousand euros and an extensive plantation made up of dozens of lush tall cannabis plants, many of which were over two meters in height.
The operation ended with the arrest of four people in flagrante delicto, placed under house arrest at the disposal of the Judicial Authority of the Public Prosecutor’s Office of Paola and the release into a state of freedom of a fifth person who assisted the cultivation activities.
The Tortora operation represents only the final piece of a wide-ranging operational strategy that characterized the entire summer season, creating a real wall of protection of legality to protect residents and hundreds of thousands of tourists.
