The polling stations for the by-elections for the Chamber in the constituency of Reggio Calabria closed at 3pm. This is the seat vacated by Francesco Cannizzaro, of Forza Italia, elected mayor of the capital in last spring’s elections. The votes involve around 70 municipalities. According to data published by the Ministry of the Interior, the percentage of voters in the by-elections for the Chamber of Deputies stopped at 22.34%. At the close of the polls on the first day, yesterday at 11pm 14.97% of those entitled to vote had voted.
The first data
The counting began a few minutes ago. After 11 sections scrutinized out of 487, all in the city of Reggio, the centre-right candidate Fabio Roscioli won 1,079 votes, the centre-left candidate Frank Benedetto 618 while the candidate of Futuro Nazionale, Domenico Giannetta, 165. The data were shared by Fabio Roscioli’s electoral committee. The candidate of Sovereign and Popular Democracy, Francesco Toscano, has 26 preferences.
The president of the Calabria Region Roberto Occhiuto published a post on X claiming victory in the by-elections for the Reggio Calabria constituency for the Chamber. “Victory!” wrote the governor bringing a video in which Fancesco Cannizzaro looks on his mobile phone then stands up rejoicing and Occhiuto says “we won” together with the centre-right candidate Roscioli and the FI senator Lotito.

Turnout analysis
Reggio city at the closing of the polls stood at 28.52%. The municipality where the most votes were cast is Laganadi with 53.48%, the one with the lowest number of voters is Platì with 4.35%. In the previous political elections, but on a single day, 49.40% of those entitled to vote had voted.
Reggio has the second highest figure among the by-elections voted alone since 2020, after Siena. It surpasses Monza 2023 (19.23%), the most similar case: seat left by a Forza Italia parliamentarian, two days of voting, no other combined votes.
Monday brought a third of voters. In Reggio, turnout rose from 3.43% at 12pm to 10.26% at 7pm and to 14.97% at 11pm on Sunday, up to 22.34% on Monday: +7.4 points. In Monza the second day had added 4.5 points (from 14.71% to 19.23%).
Compared to the 2022 policies in the same constituency, the drop is 27.1 points (from 49.40%, then in a single day). Monza had lost 51.8; Rovigo and Selvazzano, driven by the referendum, around 15.
